Ngala Tented Camp, nestled between a lush riverine forest and sandy riverbed in the pristine Ngala Private Game Reserve, is undergoing refurbishment and will reopen in October 2024. Located in South Africa’s largest game reserve, it offers an intimate Big Five wildlife experience across 14,700 hectares (36,000 acres) of exclusive wilderness. Safaris are guided by expert rangers and trackers, ensuring responsible off-roading for close encounters with elephants, buffalo, rhinos, lions, leopards, and African wild dogs.
This chic camp features just nine luxurious tented suites, designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Each suite boasts an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, outdoor bathtubs and showers, and private wooden decks.
The elegant guest areas overlook the seasonal Timbavati River, providing a serene setting for relaxation. The interiors harmoniously combine traditional and contemporary styles, adorned with local Shangaan-inspired designs. Outdoor dining options and expansive decks offer picturesque views of the riverbed.

At Ngala Tented Camp, dining is an immersive experience set against the stunning backdrop of the Timbavati riverbed. Guests can relax on the expansive deck, enjoying tea or a freshly made cocktail while observing passing wildlife. Weather permitting, you might partake in a memorable bush dinner, savoring a delectable array of pan-African dishes under lantern-lit skies in a secluded spot on the reserve. The elevated sitting room features cozy seating by the fireplace, perfect for winter evenings, and flows into the central bar, where guests can unwind at the elongated counter or by the fireside. Expansive private wooden decks provide additional dining options, with shaded seating areas ideal for enjoying a favorite beverage while taking in the serene views of the sheltered riverbed.
